Who We Are (and Were and Have Been)

With our respective backgrounds and wide range of talents, we have built a solid core of communications expertise and developed a network of specialists who are readily available for whatever critical, "impossible" mission we take on.

Jerry Jackson is a founding partner in Water's Edge Communications (a production company focused on the full range of visual storytelling technologies: film, video, interactive media and commercial Internet applications) where he functions as a writer/producer/director and web designer/marketing consultant.  Currently engaged in several film/television projects, Jerry continues to be intimately involved in our new media endeavors.  Clients include Edelman Worldwide Public Relations, City of the Angels Film Festival, MCA/Universal, John Wayne Cancer Institute, LAX Master Plan, Air Carriers Association of America, Studio City Chamber of Commerce, The Brannon Corp., Destination Resources, Celebrity Inc., Christmount National Conference Center, Warrior Records, Omega Cinema Props, IMMediacy, Van Allen Photography, Ivy Imaging and Creative Internet Design, Inc.

Jerry began his professional career as a cinematographer/editor on a series of educational films for Coronet Films while still in high school.  Several low budget features and a stint as a Production Manager at a PBS affiliate rounded out his college years. While a student, Jerry was the director of the Refocus International Film Festival at the University of Iowa, beginning a life-long passion for creating environments where ideas are shared and creativity is nurtured.

Producer/director Sydney Pollack (The Firm, Tootsie, Out Of Africa) brought him to California after graduation from the University of Iowa where Jerry had participated in several special projects for the widely respected International Writers Workshop.

After several years developing material for Mr. Pollack, Jerry co-founded Dark Horse Films and began a series of writing/producing deals with United Artists and Walt Disney Studios and has become an award-winning feature writer/producer/director (New York, Chicago, and Houston International Film Festivals, CINE Golden Eagles, CINDY Award, International Angel Award, etc.). His resume also includes producing/directing music videos (Tiffany Heflin, "Do Ya Know" - Warrior Records) and documentaries (The Calling, The Treasure Mystery of Gran Quivira and Deaf Olympics Diary).

After completing the American Film Institute's first Advanced Interactive Design course, Jerry's fascination with interactive new media led to co-producing and moderating the first Los Angeles seminar on writing for interactive. "Interactive Creation/Creative Interaction" (1993) was an all-day seminar co-sponsored by the WGA, IICS and UCLA Extension and underwritten by IBM and Apple. Jerry has been a frequent conference speaker (Digital World, New Media Expo, InterTainment, National Association of Television Program Executives [NATPE], ShowBiz Expo, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, etc.), instructor/lecturer on new media creative issues and the impact of interactive technology on entertainment, marketing, advertising and the production process and author of magazine articles on interactive new media. In 1995 he co-produced the first annual International Interactive Communications Society's Interactive Summit Awards and in 1996 served as a judge for the National Information Infrastructure (NII) Awards.

Jerry is an active member of the Writers Guild of America (was a founding member of the Writers Education Committee, chairs the New Members Committee, has served on the Nominating Committee, the Committee Advisory Panel, and the New Media Committee where he co-authored the first WGA contract for interactive writers), teaches acting, was an original member of the UCLA Extension Multimedia Curriculum Advisory Board, served on the Executive Board (as International Vice President) of the International Interactive Communications Society (IICS) and co-founded the IICS Hollywood Special Interest Group.  In 2001, Jerry joined the Executive Committee of the City of the Angels Film Festival, and was a finals judge for the 2002 International Angel Awards for Excellence In Media and the 2004 Gabriel Awards.
